Andrew and Rebecca met at the Walnut Creek Art & Wine
festival in 2008. The joke is two people
with similar athletics and hobbies attracted.
The story goes, Andrew had a successful Triathlon that morning and
Rebecca was taking a well-deserved study break on this beautiful Saturday
afternoon. The luck of two people in the
same place at the same time sometimes collide.
We did! Andrew had road over on
his bicycle in his gear, and from a distance he caught Rebecca’s eye. A friendly smile, easy conversation, & ironically
same group of friends (her girlfriends were dating or married to his guy friends…small
world) turned into a good day. Phone chats
turned into group outings, one on one dates, a solid friendship & foundations
that has lead into commitment, fun, happiness, and Love.
We’ve dated for 4 years, lived together for the last 2 years
as “sin-full roommates” as Rebecca’s belated grandma would say, lol. We recently took interest in an upgrade to a
bigger home where we could spread out, have a spare room for Gus (our
chinchilla) and out of town guests & family. This move to our new condo was a gradual one
where we settled in over a two-week period in the middle of July.
On 7/21/2012 we did the final big move. Andrew recriuted his good friend Tommy to help
with all the heavy lifting. The day went
smoothly with no mishaps or flaws.
Little did I know that the boys had planned this day out for a
while. Tommy had to go home for a
“teacher’s BBQ”. After all the furniture
was settled from our old apartment in Oakland to our new condo just 3 miles
away we were ready to relax with a bottle of wine.
Andrew however had other plans. He made a trip down to his car to grab his
wallet he had supposedly left behind.
Turns out his wallet was in his pocket all along. He instead had to grab a little black
box. In our new room, we were both
standing, and he looked deep into my eyes.
He said he needed to tell me something, and ask something he’d been
looking forward to for a long time. My
heart was pounding, he was anxious, and I still wasn’t sure what was about to
happen. He expressed his excitement for a
new home, new start, and new beginning. He
got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him. He wished that we could start this new life
engaged and committed as future husband and wife. Of course I was thrilled, surprised, and taken
back by this beautiful ring and its shine!!
We had reservations 15 minutes later for dinner. Getting ready turned into a call to my
parents, a quick shower, makeup and outfit change and I was ready for the evening
to begin! We went to a nice Italian meal
on College Ave, Oliveto, in our new neighborhood. Then Andrew had more planned for us. By this time I was nervous. Okay
no more surprises babe! The nerves were
only natural but the night was Perfect.
After dinner we met a very small, intimate group of our close friends at
a favorite local bar, McNally’s. My girlfriend’s,
Megan, Alison, and Lauren greeted me with a big woo hoo for us and ahhhhhh at
this new diamond ring. ;) Andrew’s
friends, Tommy, Kyle, and Tony were also there to join in the excitement. The morning after we walked to a café, for
crepes and a warm breakfast. College
Ave. is a walk away for awesome window-shopping, meals, and boutiques. What a wonderful weekend and awesome new
start to a new home, neighborhood, and loving life together.
Thanks Babe. I love
you.
Always,
Rebecca
